Declaration Gin has now officially launched here firstly in the UK, Declarations traditional London Dry style promises to be a hit with gin lovers everywhere.
The highest quality grade organic ethanol and all-natural ingredients are used, this refreshing gin is powerful and zesty on the nose with subtle tasting notes of ginger and Darjeeling, finished with slight notes of cinnamon and liquorice.
From the sporting world of cricket to the ever-growing world of Gin, we speak with Michael Vaughan about how his love of Mothers ruin, inspired him to create his own gin brand – Declaration Gin.
Where did the idea to create your own gin first come from?
At home in our kitchen, around the dining room table – me and a few friends were having a gin & tonic and we chatted through the idea of creating our own gin!
If your gin was a cricketer who would it be and why (can’t say yourself)?
Declaration if a cricketer would be Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketer – you could argue that he is currently the best in the world and that is what our gin will be, smooth, pure and the best in the world!
How were the three main botanicals, sourced from the UK, India and Australia, chosen for Declaration Gin?
These prominent countries were selected as this is where I have had some of my most enjoyable moments within cricket, there was no science behind sourcing the botanicals from these countries – my best memories have come from these countries and trial and error with botanicals originating here that has paid off with the excellent quality and taste of Declaration gin.
What makes Declaration Gin stand out from the crowd?
Firstly, the taste – so smooth and pure, the branding and bottle is a key one for us, we know this will be featured within homes once the bottle has been drank as a decoration piece.
What do you think is Declarations biggest challenge?
Competition of course, the gin market is huge, but we are quietly confident our story, the team behind declaration is strong and we know once people taste this gin, we will have our place in the market.
What’s your ideal serve of Declaration?
For me personally I like two serves of Declaration Gin…
- Single measure, cinnamon stick and a premium tonic water
- Single measure, fresh grapefruit and a premium tonic water
What has been your favourite part of the Declaration Gin journey?
Definitely the trialling and sampling of all the various batches we created before finishing on our final chosen blend. It was all good fun and our final blend is a premium, pure and smooth finish gin.
You famously declare it Gin’o’clock on social media – what is your favourite time and setting it to enjoy a G & T?
Around 5:30pm on a Sunday afternoon, its always better if the sun is shining and you have some water in view.
Where do you see Declaration Gin in 5 years’ time?
Sold around the world in numerous countries and more than just a gin on offer, we are hoping to look at a range of other alcoholic drinks so watch this space!
What other gin brands do you admire & why?
Slingsbys of course being a Yorkshire man, Monkey 47 – great brand cool bottle and Manchester Gin – I love what they are doing at the moment, with a newly opened distillery and restaurant just shows the expansion opportunities in the marketplace.
